Osun NLC Chairman criticizes federal government for making unfulfilled promises while workers continue to suffer

The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun State, Comrade Christopher Abimbola Arapasopo has emphasized the need for the government and individuals to commemorate past events celebrating children on May 27th, a day filled with joy, parades, and gift exchanges.

He urged the federal government to dedicate a special day to celebrate children, considering the current security situation in the country. Encouraging children to stay focused and aim high, he highlighted the importance of such a celebration.Addressing the proposed minimum wage by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), he mentioned that the minimum wage is an act of parliament and has been passed by the National Assembly.

He criticized the federal government for making unfulfilled promises while workers continue to suffer noting that the NLC has compromised on this issue, urging the government to respond to the demands of the labor unions.Regarding the ultimatum issued by the NLC, he mentioned that the Osun chapter of the NLC is hopeful that negotiations between the NLC and the federal government will result in a reasonable agreement. He stressed that workers deserve better pay for their hard work.

The Osun NLC Chairman also commented on the relationship between the NLC and the Nigerian Labour Party, asserting that the Labour Party represents the interests of the workers. He highlighted that at the state level, there is a political wing dedicated to the responsibilities of the NLC.

He praised the efforts of the Osun state government for meeting the demands of the NLC and forming a committee to address workers’ issues, thereby improving the welfare of the workers in the state.
